Remember back in the day when you used to make friendship bracelets with your girlfriends? Well, they are back and with a tool to make making them a lot easier. My Friendship Bracelet Maker not only has a tool for making friendship bracelets but also for making ribbon barrettes!
About My Friendship Bracelet Maker
It all began when an inventor from Michigan just happened to revolutionize a global tradition.
While babysitting his granddaughters, David Crorey was introduced to the old-fashioned and awkward method of creating friendship bracelets. It was this humble pastime that started him on the hardest, yet most fulfilling journey of his life.
A retired auto executive from Detroit, David worked 30+ years developing more efficient ways to make cars using robotics with the philosophy: “Give me an everyday problem and I’ll invent a solution”. So after many engineered drawings, prototypes and focus groups, Crorey Creations introduced a perfected, patented innovation.
My Friendship Bracelet Maker® proved to be the right product at the right time, and with just a few short years in the marketplace received 7 awards from respected parent and toy industry organizations. Most importantly, the product and its website continue to be wildly successful with kids.
Today, the Crorey Creations family business has gone global as the Choose Friendship Company, bringing more innovation to simple crafting techniques and expanding its product line to an ever-widening audience. My Ribbon Barrette Maker®, the My FBM Traveler, and the My Image Bracelet Maker™ engage kids in creative self expression, while continuing to promote the message of friendship.
Choose Friendship Company supports several causes with the fun and gesture of friendship that friendship bracelets bring, including military families and families dealing with breast cancer or juvenile diabetes. Check out this anti-bullying video that was created at one of the local schools here in Michigan and includes 100 Michigan students!
My Take On It
Although I have boys, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to review these items. I received the My Friendship Bracelet Maker, The My Friendship Bracelet Maker Traveler, and the My Ribbon Barrette Maker along with a tote bag for review and boy do they bring back memories! I have at least one niece who will be very happy to receive these to make with her friends! Although I think both will like them so I’ll have to figure out who gets which set(s).
My Friendship Bracelet Maker
I can honestly say that I don’t remember how we used to make the friendship bracelets, but I do remember making them and that they weren’t the easiest things to make. With that being said, they are still kind of hard to make, even with the My Friendship Bracelet Maker, but much easier. I love that you get 56 threads with the kit and that the bottom of the maker slides open and is a storage case to keep everything organized!
The only flaw I found with the My Friendship Bracelet Maker was that the little butterfly clip doesn’t seem to stay in place. When I firmly hold the one strand and pull the other to bring it to the top the clip comes undone and moves forward, making it very difficult to make the bracelet. It’s almost like the peg isn’t long enough or not thick enough to stay within the little hole. I can understand why the clip is adjustable for the maker, not everyone has the same size wrists but it does make it difficult to make your bracelet when you have to constantly stop to fix the clip. **This could just be a flaw in the one I received**
I love how the site has a page dedicated to the different types of Patterns you can make and they are organized by beginner, intermediate, and advanced so you can work your way through the patterns. There are also several instructional videos that help you with making your bracelet!
I had a bit of a hard time making my bracelet and I can’t wait to see what my niece makes! This is how my bracelet is coming along.
Not the greatest looking bracelet, but it’s a start!
My Friendship Bracelet Maker Traveler
The My Friendship Bracelet Maker Traveler was a lot nicer to me! Because the clip is not adjustable I didn’t have to worry about it moving on me while I was making the bracelet! Even though the traveler is smaller, it’s not really that much smaller and it still comes with a little storage case to hold your threads. The traveler comes with 20 threads to get you started!
Just like the regular My Friendship Bracelet Maker, the traveler allows you to make your bracelet as thick or thin as you’d like. They both come with spots to hold up to 10 threads, although you can use more than that if you’d like.
My Ribbon Barrette Maker
The Barrette Maker is a lot easier to use, for me. I was able to fly through making my first barrette within about 10 minutes. I could have used more ribbon on it, but I liked the way it came out! Just like the Bracelet Maker, the Barrette Maker has a slide out case under it to hold all of your barrette making materials; including barrettes, ribbons, and beads.
Making the barrettes is a lot easier than making the bracelets, but with enough practice you can make some really great items for you and your friends. A close-up of the one barrette I made is below and I’m thinking about making the other one for a matching pair for myself before I hand these over to my nieces!
I think the girls are going to have more fun with these than I did and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
