Kool Rider {Review & Giveaway}

When we were younger we used a clothespin to put a baseball card or playing card on our bike to get it to make a “motor” type sound while riding. It was great, but they really didn’t last long.  Kool Rider is the new way of creating a motor like sound from your child’s bicycle!

About Kool Rider

Ideal for girls and boys, this clever add-on makes a two-wheeler go from ho-hum to at vroom with the authentic sounds of a motorbike. The secret is in the high performance polymers developed DuPont labs. Simple to use, just clip on the single unit on each wheel. For bigger sound effect, clip on two. Kids can customize their bikes with the included, long- lasting stickers.

You can purchase the Kool Rider is for boys and girls ages 6+ and costs $9.95 (plus shipping) from the Kool Rider site and they will also be available at sporting goods and toy stores nationwide.

My Take On It

At first you think, “How can someone make this any better?” Well, let me tell you, the Kool Rider works much better than the old baseball/playing card and clothespin!

When I first knew I was going to get a chance to review the Kool Rider I told Thaddeus that I was getting him something for his bike that would make it sound like a motorcycle he was excited and couldn’t wait!  He waited and waited for the Kool Rider to arrive, not that it took long, but for a 6-year-old a couple days is like forever!

Once the Kool Rider arrived I immediately put the stickers on.  Be very careful doing this because once they touch the plastic, they are on there and will not come off to move them without ripping them!  That’s my only complaint.  It comes with three stickers, one main Kool Rider sticker and a boy sticker and a girl sticker.  The boy sticker is red with flames and the girls is pink with flames.  Also included is a Velcro strip to place on the fork for extra security.  Just clamp the Kool Rider around the fork, along the Velcro (the other Velcro piece is in the Kool Rider clip) and start riding and making noise.  Kool Rider recommends two Kool Riders per bike.  I however, wouldn’t suggest this unless you like a lot of noise!

I just wish I would have been able to video Thaddeus’ reaction when I put the Kool Rider on his bike.  I spun the wheel to make sure it was securely on his fork and his first response was:

Well, that doesn’t sound like a motorcycle!

Once I knew it was ready to go, I told him to take his bike for a spin and he had a much more excited response when he returned.

I guess he’s happy with his motorcycle sounding bike! The next test is to see just how long the Kool Rider actually lasts! They say that they’ve tested it on a bike for 250 miles and it “barely had a scratch!”, so we’ll see if this rings true. Not necessarily if it has a scratch on it, but if it actually stays on the bike and continues to work the same. Thaddeus has a long haul of bike riding coming since spring is just starting and I know that he’ll do well over 250 miles on his bike before it gets too cold to ride anymore.
