Here’s to Another 15 Years!

I will admit, I never thought that meeting someone online, falling in love, getting married, having kids, and almost getting a divorce was ever in my thoughts. But that’s how the last 15 years of my life have been. It doesn’t seem like that long ago I announced I was in the process of getting separated and possibly divorced. Believe me when I say that the last 8 months have been the longest 8 months of my life and the most stressful.

Wedding Picture - FacingHowever, I have very, VERY, happy to announce that my husband and I have possibly worked everything out and we are starting fresh. We are no longer separating and we are working to make our marriage work!

15 years ago, right around this time, we were planning our wedding. It was going to be a very small wedding and pretty much no one in my family knew about it. That story is for another time.  This Thanksgiving Day will be our 15th wedding anniversary. It is amazing that it actually falls on Thanksgiving, however, it was bound to happen one year. Just didn’t know it would be on our 15th year.

How to make it work

How do you make a marriage work that was just about to end?

  • You need time and patience.
  • You need time away from each other.
  • You need friends to participate in your life.
  • You need date nights.

What are your suggestions on how to make a marriage work that was just about to end?

I can’t comment on marriage suggestions, as I’ve never been married, but – what online dating site did you use? I’m curious. I started online dating last year, it’s been a ride so far but I’ve met a few good guys :). I’m currently on OKCupid and Match, and I’ve tried eHarmony before too.

Liz, the site isn’t around anymore. It wasn’t a dating site, just a site for chatting. I don’t even know if there were any “dating” sites back then LOL

Congratulations on your reconciliation! I went through a divorce almost 2 years ago now and while it was definitely for the best it was still incredibly hard. Now I’m engaged and I’ve learned a lot from my first marriage. I think having interests in common is really underrated and incredibly important. You have to have something in common, things to talk about, fun things to do together. 🙂 Happy Anniversary

Congratulations on taking the time to make it work.
I think the most important part of making it work is to talk. You have to be open and honest about everything. The other thing is to learn to let things go. If you get bringing up the past you can’t move forward. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary. It takes work every single day. Good luck!

Being with someone take a lot of kindness, patience, time, and love. The one thing in my relationship with my husband we had to overcome is a understanding of each ones feelings, and acceptance. It takes a lot of dedication, but if you love the person it all falls into place.
