I would like to introduce you to Ecostore USA, an extension of Ecostore. EcoSTORE is a New Zealand company that makes plant-based, non-toxic Household Cleaning, Baby and Personal Care Products that contain No Nasty Chemicals™.
ecostore was founded in 1993 by Malcolm and Melanie Rands from their home in an eco village in New Zealand. Their dream was ambitious – to create a healthier more sustainable world.
One of the ways they saw to do this was to set up a business providing everyday household products that could help people be healthier and ‘green up’ at home.
The second way was by setting up the Fairground Foundation. Fairground is a charitable organisation that is funded by ecostore profits to promote sustainability through ‘on-the-ground’ action.
Just a couple little tidbits about Ecostore:
- The Founder was a stay at home dad living in an eco-village.
- We offer free shipping on orders over $25, and you can find us at Meijer and Duane Reade stores.
Cleaning the bathroom, my least favorite once-a-month chore. OK, so I clean it more often than that, but I wish I didn’t. Wearing old clothes so I don’t stain anything decent, the gloves, face mask, goggles, HAZMAT team on speed dial! At least, that is how it feels. The products I usually use all contain bleach in one form or another (as well as numerous unpronounceable ingredients), and by the time I am done in there I have to shut the door, open the window and avoid the bathroom for the next few hours. To be honest, I have avoided most “green” or “all natural” cleaning supplies, with a few exceptions. I just felt that the money would not be well spent on products that didn’t seem to have the science behind them to get the job done (clean the area and kill the germs). Then Shawn Ann handed me two products by Ecostore, their All Purpose Cleaner and their Toilet Cleaner. As luck would have it, I had family visiting the next day and was getting ready to clean the bathroom well, so I used them.
The Toilet Cleaner worked surprisingly well. Unlike my usual brand which is a liquid, the Ecostore brand is a gel which clung well to the porcelain and didn’t dilute completely the moment water touched it. And is smelled good!! Yeah, I know, you should never use the phrase “smelled good” while talking about a toilet, but it did. Add to that, the fact that it cleaned just as well as what I had been using, and I was one impressed person. Now on to cleaning the tile in the shower, the sink, etc. with the All Purpose Cleaner.
Just about the time I started cleaning the shower tile, my little boy walked in, needing to go potty. As soon as he got in there he said: “it smells like Kool-Aid in here”. He was right! Both the Toilet Cleaner and the All Purpose Cleaner had a very nice and sweet smell to them. A far reach from the chemical “nastiness” we are used to when I clean the bathroom. The All Purpose Cleaners left the hardware in the sink and shower shiny and cleaned just as well as anything else I have used. Now to just do something about that unsightly bathtub ring.
Disclosure: I would like to thank Maggie and Ecostore USA for providing us with a complimentary bottle of the All Purpose Cleanser and Toilet Cleaner for the purpose of this review. All opinions are that of my own.
