School may be out and the last thing on the kids mind is learning, but PBS Kids’ summer learning initiative is here and what a perfect way to be involved than by receiving a Dinosaur Train book to review and giveaway! The book may technically be a little young for Thaddeus, but because it’s Dinosaur Train’s Dinosaur A to Z book I knew that he wouldn’t mind reading it over and over and even using it as a teaching tool for his little brother.
The “Dinosaurs A-Z” special is being aired as part of PBS KIDS’ summer learning initiative, which provides families with a variety of free and educational resources to encourage young learners to continue learning and exploring over summer vacation. Research shows that students experience significant learning loss when they do not participate in educational activities during the summer months, and that loss is even greater among children in low-income communities. This exciting initiative kicked off on June 3, and features 10-weeks of programming and partnership activities designed to inspire kids 2-8 to continue learning and exploring over summer vacation!
I love that the book is made up of the thicker pages, helps keep Xavier from tearing the pages out. This will allow us to be able to keep this book for a pretty long time and I’m sure Xavier will be reading it when he’s a bit older. The fact that they have the pronunciation for the dinosaur names is awesome, even adult need a little help with dinosaur names!
There will be a special airing on July 8th & 9th of Dinosaur A-Z to encourage kids to practice the alphabet while learning about the diversity of dinosaurs. You will need to check your local TV listings for the specific times in your are. On July 8th they will be airing the first two parts; Dinosaur A to Z the Big Idea and Spread the Word. On July 9th they will air episodes three and four; Dinosaur A to Z Classification and Dinosaurs A to Z Picnic.
These fun episodes begin aboard the Dinosaur Train where Tiny gets the idea to gather all the dinosaurs in the “Dinosaurs A to Z” song for a picnic at Troodon Town. The conductor agrees, and as the Train starts picking up dinosaurs, Tiny, Buddy, Shiny and Don, help keep track of how many of the different species have come on board. They learn about classification and organize the dinosaurs by their species, features, and size. When all 26 dinosaurs finally come on board, the Train has more extra cars than ever before and they need an additional engine to help pull it! Once they arrive at Troodon Town for the picnic, Tiny leads the 26 different “A to Z” dinosaurs in a fun, rousing, and historic singing of the “Dinosaurs A to Z” song!
